If you think that all remote dog training collars have to cost a fortune, think again. The SmartPets 4-in-1 Dog Training Shock and Vibration Collar can be found online for as little as $30! That's hundreds of dollars less than some of the other remote dog collars.
So, what do you get for such a low price?
The 4-in-1 collars do not have nearly as many options as their more expensive counterparts. However, one of these remote dog collars will give you the basics, including:
The 4-in-1's remote uses a 9 volt battery, and the collar uses two AAA batteries – meaning that they are easy and relatively inexpensive to replace. That's a far cry from other remote training collars that use pricier batteries – that cost considerably more when it comes time to replace them.
Unfortunately, according to most reviewers, you will have to replace these batteries quite a bit. Most of the 4-in-1's reviewers complained that the batteries in the collar were particularly weak. Not only did they need to be replaced frequently, but many of them said that the collar did not provide a strong enough electronic stimulation.
In fact, many of the reviewers said that the 4-in-1 simply isn't strong enough for bigger dogs. That was the chief complaint surrounding the 4-in-1 – that it simply doesn't give enough of a charge to grab big dogs' attention.
However, in fairness, it is not necessarily designed to work that way. The collar is not long enough to fit around very large necks, so if you have a big dog, you will have to look at other remote dog training collars.
While the owners of bigger – and even some medium-sized dogs – were disappointed with the results they got from the 4-in-1, it did get some praise from the owners of smaller dogs. In fact, reviewers who own dogs that weigh less than 25 pounds say that the collar worked just fine for them.
Many of the reviewers that own smaller dogs had no problems with the 4-in-1. Some of them said that the collar and receiver were probably not as sturdy as they should be. However, they also do not view remote dog training collars as a long-term addition. Most people get the results they need from dog training collars quickly – and never use them again.
And while the reviews that we found may not have been overwhelmingly positive, dog owners did not really regret buying the 4-in-1. Most of them said that they were originally drawn to the 4-in-1 because of its very small price tag. From the beginning, they figured that if they could see results from it, great; if not, they could move onto something more expensive.
Bottom line: Cutting corners with remote dog training collars might give you subpar results. After all, there is reason why people warn that "you get what you pay for". According to many of the 4-in-1 reviewers, they probably would have been better off spending a little more money for a top-grade collar. But, if you have a small dog, the SmartPets 4-in-1 Dog Training Shock and Vibration Collar might be all you need.
