PetSafe Big Dog Remote Trainer Review
Amazon.com Price: $139 - Click Here
Designed for bigger dogs, the PetSafe Big Dog Remote Trainer's goal is to help end unwanted behaviors - like excessive barking, jumping, lunging, and running off. With it, you can quickly teach your dog what's appropriate and what's not.
For around $150, you will get a remote dog training collar that has a 1,000-yard range and a large digital display, so that it is easy to see what setting you're on and how much battery power you have left.
Plus, the Big Dog Remote Trainer also comes with a tone-only function, so that you do not have to rely solely on electronic stimulations. Some dog owners are nervous about using electrical stimulations on their dogs, and the Big Dog Remote Trainer gives a solid alternative for any dog owner who's not completely comfortable. The tone-only function lets out a high-pitched noise that is designed to grab your dog's attention before you reach for the electronic stimulation button.
And if you have a couple of dogs living in your house, the Big Dog Remote Trainer makes it easy to train all of them at once. The remote transmitter can work with several collars simultaneously. All you have to do is buy a few extra collars, and you are good to go!
However, the Big Dog Remote Trainer only works for larger breeds. PetSafe admits that the collar should only be worn by dogs that weigh more than 40 pounds. And, the collar will fit necks up to 33". However, that collar is also as stylish as you can get with remote training collars. Most reviewers were happily surprised to see that the collar was streamlined - and looked like a regular collar.
Even though the collar is designed with bigger dogs in mind, reviewers of the Big Dog Remote Trainer say that it is surprisingly lightweight. In fact, some reviewers said that it was much lighter than other remote dog training collars.
And that lightness is by design. The Big Dog Remote Trainer uses lithium ion batteries in the collar, which are much lighter than the batteries that you find inside of other remote dog training collars.
There was one surprise that several reviewers didn't like, though.
Some of them said that the Big Dog Remote Trainer is not as waterproof as PetSafe says. In fact, several reviewers said that it stopped working after their dogs went into a puddle or got rained on - something that we didn't see happen with other remote dog collars.
That one flaw aside, though, most buyers of the Big Dog Remote Trainer were happy with their purchases. In particular, they were pleased with the tone-only option.
Some reviewers said that the tone is quieter than the tones you see on other remote training collars. However, it is still, apparently, incredibly effective. Several people said that the tone worked so well that they never even had to use the electrical stimulation option!
For the ones who had to use more than just the tone, the electrical stimulation option was also incredibly effective. Most reviewers said that they saw dramatic improvements in their dogs' behavior just by using it on the lowest - and most gentle - setting.
Bottom line: If you are looking for a quality remote dog training collar, you will be pleased with the PetSafe Big Dog Remote Trainer. While other brands may offer slightly better options, most reviewers were very happy with their choice.
